Discover Eternal Life (text)

When Jesus said “I am the light for the world, whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (John 8:12), He was speaking to you and me.

As humans, born in sin, our eyes are blinded. We are in spiritual darkness. On our own and given to our own devices, we cannot find our way to God. But God has provided a way . . . it is through Jesus Christ. He is that light that shines the path to God and eternal life. That’s why Jesus declared: “I am the way, the truth and the life. No man comes unto the Father, but by Me!” (John 3:3)

So, how does one go through Jesus Christ to the Father, God? How does one receive the gift of eternal life?

Jesus said: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him, shall not perish, but have everlasting” (John 3:16).

It is simply through belief in Jesus Christ. But “belief” can be a tricky word. Jesus didn’t mean that you believe to the point that you just acknowledge He existed . . . like you would some other historical character you’ve only read about. This belief moves from the head (acknowledging Him) to the heart (believing in Him and what He did for you).

This “belief,” also called “faith,” has been defined: “Trusting in Christ alone for your salvation.” Many believe in all sorts of ways to get to God and Heaven. But the Bible and Jesus, Himself, claimed exclusivity when He said it was only through Him and what He did on the cross. (And she shall bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name - Jesus, for He shall save His people from their sins. / Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other Name under Heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved. Matthew 1:21 / Acts 4:12)

You see, because of our sin, and we’ve all sinned (For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. / As it is written, there is none righteous, no not one - Romans 3:23 / 3:10), a penalty for that sin and all the sins of the world would need to be paid. Only a sinless person could pay that sin debt. Enter Jesus Christ, God’s Son, who was sent into this world for the express purpose of dying on a cross to pay that penalty. This He did. And as a stamp of approval, he also rose from the dead on the third day.

Now, it’s when one believes (has faith) in Jesus and what He did on the cross for them, and receives that gift (sins paid for), that eternal life is given. (But as many as receive Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe in His name. / That if you will confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. John 1:12 / Romans 10:9).

It’s as simple as that - yet, so profound.

You can pray to Jesus right now asking Him to save you.

If you were ask - “How do I make that decision? I’m not sure what to say.” What’s been called “A Sinner’s Prayer” might be the answer:

Dear Lord Jesus, I admit to You that I am a sinner - I have failed You.

Thanks you, Jesus, for dying on the cross for me and my sin and rising from the dead.

Dear Lord Jesus, right now I invite You into my life. Come in and forgive my sin and save me, right now!
